Smart Water Planning
From drooping plants and trees to rivers running far below normal
levels, Georgia’s drought has hit our population, our green spaces and
our wildlife hard. Georgia is currently facing “the most historic
drought we have ever seen in recorded history,” according to
Environmental Protection Division Director Carol Couch.
The drought has forced legislators and others around the state to
pay greater attention to a planning process that the state started four
years ago, thanks to legislation that Environment Georgia helped to
pass. The goal is to create a statewide water plan that will protect
our water resources for generations to come. We’ll be working to make
sure the Legislature and the Georgia Water Council find solutions that
encourage everyone to use water more efficiently and that growth
happens in a sustainable way.

The state is forming a plan that is supposed to ensure clean water for all of us to enjoy in the future.
