Saving Our Green Spaces

What's New

After efforts led by Environment Georgia and other land conservation groups, the state legislature unanimously voted to pass, and the governor signed House Bill 1107. The new law will create the Georgia Conservation Tax Credit, a reward for landowners who choose to permanently conserve their land. Protecting our farms, woodlands and wetlands will protect our air, water and quality of life.

How You Can Help

Thank Gov. Perdue for supporting efforts to encourage conservation of our farms, woodlands and wetlands.

Brief Summary

Record numbers of people are moving to Georgia to enjoy our mild climate, live in friendly neighborhoods and enjoy our green spaces.

The stakes are high for a state like ours because too much development can pollute our drinking water, dirty our air and tarnish our natural heritage.

The good news is that our research shows there’s plenty we can do right now to preserve our quality of life. This is why Environment Georgia worked to pass HB 1107 into law. The new law will give Georgians a tax break when they conserve their land as green space instead of selling it to developers.

These green space solutions can help property owners keep their land while keeping the land green—instead of letting developers turn it into yet another subdivision or strip mall.
