Protect Jekyll Island
If you're lucky, you have had the chance to visit Jekyll Island, a scenic barrier island off the coast of Georgia. The island is home to one of the few accessible and open stretches of beach available to the public and an important nesting ground for sea turtles. It is also a state park that belongs to each and every one of us.
Unfortunately, developers were threatening one of its most accessible and breathtaking beaches with a controversial redevelopment proposal. After some great work by Environment Georgia activists and others the developer backed off announced that they will rearrange their development plans to keep
the beach condo free. This is a great first step, but we need to make sure that
protections for this beautiful area are made permanent.
Send the email below to your state legislators and tell them we need to continue to watchdog the
issue and look for ways to ensure permanent protection.
