Saving national forests

Thanks to our federation’s work, more than 1.5 million citizens nationwide called on the Clinton administration to protect pristine areas in our national forests, resulting in the Roadless Rule. When the Bush administration attempted to overturn the rule, we worked with governors in seven states to petition to protect their forests.

Environment Georgia, in conjunction with the Public Interest Network, is organizing a Free Activist Workshop in Atlanta on Thursday January 21st from 6pm to 9pm. Show up ready for action. We will spend the day moving between large group overviews and small groups to give people an opportunity to learn and internalize skills.

We will focus on the skills necessary to helping passionate activists approach a wide range of issues.

Here's the agenda:

6:00 – 6:15 Welcome/Introductions

6:15 – 6:30 Overview of Working with the Media

6:30 – 7:15 Small Groups: Planning a News Conference

7:15 – 7:30 Overview of Pitching Reports

7:30 – 8:00 Small Groups: Pitching Reports

8:00 – 8:15 Break, meet fellow area activists

8:15 – 8:30 Volunteer Recruitment 101 Overview

Tell your legislators to support transit

While other states have taken major steps toward expanding transit and cutting pollution, Georgia has dragged its feet. Last week, that inaction cost Georgia millions of dollars in funding for high-speed rail lines that were awarded instead to states with much higher investments in transportation.

Fill out the information in the right-hand column to e-mail your legislators and urge them to step up to the challenge of creating a world-class transit system, which will be a major step in addressing our state's air quality concerns and working toward a cleaner, healthier environment.
