Dear Member of Congress,
I urge you to make increasing energy efficiency, expanding public transportation, deploying renewable energy technology, and reducing the pollution that causes global warming central elements in America’s economic policies.
As a first step, please support an economic recovery plan that invests in energy efficiency improvements, the rapid deployment of renewable energy, and the development of a skilled workforce to accomplish these goals.
Over the long term, we can and we must convert America’s pollution-based economy to one fueled by 100 percent clean, efficient, renewable electricity. Doing so will protect our environment, improve our energy security, slow global warming and jump-start our economy.
It must start now, with a commitment to invest in a green economic recovery.

Saving national forests
Thanks to our federation’s work, more than 1.5 million citizens
nationwide called on the Clinton administration to protect pristine
areas in our national forests, resulting in the Roadless Rule. When the
Bush administration attempted to overturn the rule, we worked with
governors in seven states to petition to protect their forests.
